Carmen and Tony Messineo have long been active members in the community and have demonstrated a consistent interest in the causes that serve young people. They have unfailingly gone the extra mile on behalf of all children, and have been particularly supportive of the TeamMates Mentoring Program of Lincoln. For this reason, we named the Carmen and Tony Messineo Community Involvement Award in their honor.
This award was introduced in 2008 and celebrates the individuals, businesses, faith-based groups, and community organizations that have partnered with TeamMates, demonstrating a continuum of support for the TeamMates program and its goals.
2020 Carmen and Tony Messineo Community Involvement Award Winner
Dr. Stephen Joel, Superintendent of Lincoln Public Schools
As the superintendent for Lincoln Public Schools, Dr. Joel is perhaps the strongest voice of youth advocacy in our community. This award is one that he adds to a wide variety of awards and distinctions including: Nebraska Superintendent of the Year and Leadership Excellence by the Educational Resource Development Institute. Dr. Joel also has been active in many community clubs and coalitions, and serves on a number of boards including the Chamber of Commerce, Foundation for Lincoln Public Schools, Lincoln Community Foundation, The Career Academy, and United Way of Lincoln and Lancaster County.
Dr. Joel has been one of TeamMates’ strongest champions through his administration in Lincoln and previously in Grand Island. Through his leadership, LPS participation in the program has grown immensely. In his time with LPS he has personally mentored four young men and has encouraged his entire executive team to mentor, too.
Lincoln TeamMates is grateful for Dr. Joel’s dedication to the program and the youth of our community.
