January Community Service Project
Each month, TeamMates will offer a new community service idea for mentors and mentees to participate in together. These projects will help mentees learn about responsibility and compassion while giving back to the community.
No Sew Fleece Scarves for the Homeless
There are a number of organizations working together to end homelessness in Lincoln by providing basic needs, emergency shelter, employment support, physical and mental health resources, etc to those in need. The number of homeless in Lincoln has steadily decreased since 2012, but according to the Lincoln Homeless Coalition 2016 Point in Time count, there were still 694 individuals, including 155 children under the age of 18, who were homeless in Lincoln.
TeamMates mentors and mentees can help provide warmth during the cold, winter months by making fleece scarves for those in need. TeamMates hopes to donate 120 scarves to the following agencies that provide services to support the homeless and near-homeless in Lincoln.
Staff and volunteers from these agencies will ensure their clients in need receive the scarves.
No Sew Fleece Scarf Instructions
All scarves should be delivered to the TeamMates office at 5905 O Street by Wednesday, January 31.
If you have questions, would like to request materials be sent to the school where you mentor, are unable to drop off your scarves to the TeamMates office, or would like to be involved with delivering scarves, please contact Stacey Blizek at sblizek@lps.org or call the TeamMates office at 402-436-1990.
