Going the Extra Mile
LPS bus drivers are considered the first and last classroom of the day for nearly 4,000 students attending an LPS school. Besides transporting to and from school safely each day, LPS bus drivers are also tasked with many field trips and sporting activities. Last year, buses logged a total of 1.68 million route miles.
Currently there are around 140 drivers and 60 paras that depart the bus barn each morning to pick up and drop off students. There are also mechanics that work on the buses and vans to ensure they are running well. Then, you have the administrative staff that trains drivers, plans routes, runs dispatch, work with families and schools, and help support the drivers en route.

April 22nd marks Bus Driver Appreciation Day this year. To show all the LPS bus drivers, paras, mechanics, and administrative staff how much we appreciate them, Lincoln TeamMates matches made paper plate buses. These buses were decorated with many words of thanks for all the transportation staff does for schools and students. These buses will be hung in the breakroom at the bus depot for all the staff to see and we hope they know how much they are appreciated!
