Montoya Laravie was matched with his mentor, Mike Epstein, in 2011. The match kept in close contact through high school and beyond until Montoya passed away in 2019. Now Mike is starting a scholarship in his name. Montoya was proud of his Ponca heritage, something that Mike wants to honor through the scholarship.
