A Little Grit Goes A Long Way

Effort is work done by the mind or body; a serious attempt to do something, whereas achievement is a result gained from effort.

We cannot achieve success unless we put grit into our efforts.

Teachers in Lincoln Public Schools are touching on this topic all the time with their students to teach the importance of trying their best and working hard to achieve their goals.

Effort makes us more motivated and can make us see our future more positively because we believe we can achieve success. There are many ways that you can help to reinforce and encourage your mentee’s grit.

  • Many of the games you play with your mentee are teaching the importance of effort – Sudoku, Chess, Checkers, Jenga, Farkle, and putting together a puzzle are great suggestions of activities that require grit.
  • Your positive encouragement when your mentee tells you a goal or success they have had is also reinforcing the importance of effort.
  • Your focus on their strengths, or the things they do well, can make a huge impact on their effort and their belief in what they can achieve.

thank you for encouraging efforts in your mentee!
