2018 Spring Celebration

The annual TeamMates Spring Celebration provides an opportunity for mentors, family members and scholarship donors to celebrate the graduating senior mentees’ hard work and achievements. By attending, underclass students get a glimpse of their own walk across the stage, when, on a day in the not-too-distant future, they achieve the goal of high school graduation. The event, held at UNL’s Innovation Campus, also provides mentees the chance to tour UNL and learn more about the college experience.

2018 Spring Celebration

On April 27th, 93 graduating TeamMates mentees were invited to celebrate their success with their mentors, family members and friends at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Innovation Campus, and 46 scholarships were awarded.

Kendy N. receives her scholarship from donor, Lincoln TeamMates Board Member and LPS Administrator, Thomas Christie. During the event, Christie also received the Carmen and Tony Messineo Community Involvement Award for his dedication to community service and the Lincoln TeamMates Program.

This year’s keynote speaker, Luis Salazar, Co-Founder and CEO of Giving Tech Labs, delivered an inspiring presentation, arming students with a few tips that have gotten him to where he is in life. Most importantly, Salazar spoke about finding your “ikigai,” a Japanese concept that means one’s purpose for being. “Your ikigai is your compass through life.” Salazar said as he addressed the students directly.

After the program concluded, students were invited to lunch at Selleck Hall on UNL’s City Campus, as well as tours of Innovation Campus’ Innovation Studio and presentations by UNL Admissions staff.

The Lincoln TeamMates staff would like to thank all those who made the day possible, as well as all the family members, mentors and scholarship donors in attendance.  Without you this celebration would not have been a success.
