Tissue Paper Flower Delivery

Hope in Bloom: TeamMates Brightens the Day of Dialysis Patients

In March, TeamMates partnered with the Dialysis Center of Lincoln to bring some springtime joy to their patients. Thanks to the good work of mentors and mentees, over 145 tissue paper flowers were made!

Founded in 1987 as a joint effort between Bryan Medical Center and CHI Health-Saint Elizabeth Regional Medical Center, the Dialysis Center of Lincoln now operates four facilities, three in Lincoln and one in Columbus, as well as a 24/7 home dialysis service. Currently there are 314 patients receiving care at these facilities.  As a not-for-profit facility, even those who can’t afford dialysis treatment, can receive low- to no-cost services.

Dialysis is a treatment for kidney failure that rids the body of unwanted toxins, waste products and excess fluids by filtering the patient’s blood.  Dialysis treatment, and often, a kidney transplant, is needed to prolong life.

While delivering the flowers to the Southwest campus of the Dialysis Center, TeamMates staff members, Audrey Watson and Stacey Blizek, personally gave a flower to each of the 12 patients receiving treatment at the time. They explained to each patient that TeamMates mentors and mentees made the flowers in hopes of making their day a little brighter. Every one of the patients couldn’t help but smile.  They each expressed their thanks as they accepted a colorful flower.
