Being Face to Face Friends

“This media we call social is anything but, when we open our computers and it’s our doors we shut.”

– Gary Turk

Cellphones and social media have certainly made it easier for us to keep in touch and communicate with family and friends all over the world, but what we are starting to lose is the benefits that face to face interaction can bring.

Thank you for being face to face friends with your TeamMate. By meeting with your mentee once a week at school, you are able to model positive interactions, including talking with people in person rather than on their phones, and setting the foundation for trust and a deeper connection to form. When you meet at school with your mentee, you are giving them the message that they are important and you want to dedicate time specifically to them.

“So look up from your phone, shut down the display. Take in your surroundings and make the most of today. Just one real connection is all it can take,
to show you the difference that being there can make.”

– Gary Turk
