Yarn Pumpkin

Here is a perfect fall craft idea to share with your mentee for either Halloween or Thanksgiving.

Supplies Needed:

  • Yarn
  • Glue
  • Balloon
  • Bowl or plate
  • Plastic fork
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Battery operated tea candle (optional)

Instructions:

Step 1:  Blow up a balloon about half full.

Step 2:  Cut the yarn into approximately 36″ pieces.

Step 3:  Pour the glue into a bowl or plate and dip a piece of yarn into it. Swirl it around with a plastic fork to completely cover it in glue. Hold one end of the string in your hands while pulling it through the tines of the fork to remove excess glue.

Step 4:  Take the glue covered yarn and wrap it around the balloon.

Repeat steps 3 and 4 with the remaining pieces of yarn.

Step 5:  Hang the balloon to dry for 24 hours.

Step 6:  After the glue is dry, press down on the balloon so that the yarn detaches from the balloon.

Step 7:  Gently poke a hole near the knot of the balloon and let the balloon slowly deflate. Remove the deflated balloon.

Step 8:  Curl a pipe cleaner and attach to the top to resemble a stem. You can also insert a battery operated candle if you like!
