Pointillism Art

Supplies Needed:

  • Markers
  • Coloring Pages

Pointillism is an art style using small patterns of colored dots to create an image. This technique was developed by artists Georges Seurat and Paul Signac in 1886 and was inspired by the impressionism movement. Impressionism is an art style that focuses on the feeling of an experience rather than an accurate depiction of a scene.

Instructions:

  • Simply touch the paper with the tip of the marker to make a small dot. Don’t worry about making the dot perfectly round or specifically spaced.
  • To create a color blend, add different colored dots in the same area.
  • To create shading, start with lighter colors and layer with darker colors.

You can also try this with paint, pencils, and paper. Get creative!
