2021 Carmen and Tony Messineo Community Involvement Award Winner: Bob and Jan Fitzsimmons

Bob and Jan FitzSimmons support the Lincoln community in many ways, with a major emphasis in supporting youth and organizations that serve students. They provide a number of scholarships through TeamMates and other organizations, for high school seniors beginning their post-secondary journeys.

Bob has been a long-standing leader in the Lincoln Kiwanis community and serves as the Board President of the St. Mark’s United Methodist Church Foundation. For the last 12 years, he has also served as the vice chair for Wyuka Cemetery and Funeral Home board of trustees as appointed by two Nebraska Governors.

Jan has been an avid volunteer through her service as a greeter and advisory board secretary at Saint Elizabeth Regional Medical Center.

Bob and Jan support the Lied Center for Performing Arts’ student outreach program and are patrons of five public art pieces on display around Lincoln. They also support the University of Nebraska-Lincoln School of Business.

For the past 5 years, the FitzSimmons have contributed to the annual Give to Lincoln matching fund program organized by the Lincoln Community Foundation where they act as trustees.

Finally, Bob and Jan have both served as TeamMates mentors. Bob was part of one of the very first recruiting classes of TeamMates in 1997 and has mentored 5 different students. Jan began mentoring in 2012.

Bob and Jan also have supported TeamMates of Lincoln by providing funds for the creation and distribution of our local Public Service Announcements that you may have seen on TV both last year and this year. Because of their gracious support in helping promote TeamMates, we have been able to match dozens of new mentors who learned about our program through the PSA’s.

Lincoln TeamMates is grateful for Bob and Jan’s dedication to the program and the youth of our community.
