July 30 and 31, TeamMates of Lincoln staff attended the TeamMates Annual Conference at the Embassy Suites in downtown Lincoln. TeamMates coordinators, facilitators, board members, and staff from five states gathered to celebrate the growth and success of the program, as well as network and train for the upcoming school year.
Inspirational stories and valuable mentoring perspectives were shared by keynote speakers Dr. Tom Osborne, Co-founder of TeamMates; Fred Hoiberg, University of Nebraska Head Basketball Coach; Michael Garringer, Director of Research and Evaluation at MENTOR: The National Mentoring Partnership; and Miss Sue Mitchell, the learning specialist portrayed by Kathy Bates in the Oscar-nominated movie The Blind Side. Attendees enjoyed breakout sessions throughout the conference instrumental to TeamMates best practices.
During the conference, Lincoln TeamMates was honored with the TeamMates Pillars of Achievement Award. This award is given to TeamMates chapters for their dedication and commitment of helping their seniors secure scholarships while inspiring them to pursue some type of post-secondary education or training after High School graduation.
“The TeamMates Annual Conference is a positive, rejuvenating way to refresh our inspiration for the upcoming school year,“ says Lincoln TeamMates Match Support Specialist, Angee Dostal. “The focus reminds us of the importance of mentoring, the impact on both the student and mentor, and the ripple effect a caring adult can have .”
